Entering A Rewarding New Career As A Kuras Dental Assistant

Dental care in the Heart is a non-profit organization based in Florida, which invites dentist offices around the nation to volunteer to offer free dental care to those in need, regardless of income. The group came about because of a need for low cost dental care among low income families in the Monroe area. A group of local dentists who were interested in this free dental care opportunity contacted the Kuras Dental Health Center in Florida. They felt the center was an ideal place to help those who were less fortunate. The group now provides free basic dental care for low and moderate income families.

The program offers two different kinds of assistance to those who qualify: One is the Beth Dental Clinic at Kuras Dental Health Center. This center offers a full range of general dental care along with a full range of preventative dental care such as routine X-rays, fluoride treatments, and teeth cleaning. It also offers emergency care in an emergency room and many other patient care options. The second option is to become a part of the county community college dental hygiene program. Here, students learn basic oral health care as well as other information that they will need to know to become a dentist.

A person who wishes to work in the beth clinic as either a dental assistant or a dentist must first take an associate degree in dental assisting. Those who choose this option must be under 21 years of age, be American and have a valid dental license. Students who successfully completed their associate degree in dental assisting enjoys a job in a wide variety of settings including public health departments, hospitals, private practices and schools. For those who would like to advance to the next level, they may consider earning their master's degree in dentistry.

To be eligible for these higher levels of dental assistant positions, individuals need to be registered in rural dental assistant classes. Those who have a high school diploma enjoy working for the Department of Health. Individuals who have earned their associate's degree in rural dental assisting enjoys working for the Department of Social Services in the Department of Public Health. In both cases, individuals must be paid on a full-time basis.

The second option for earning dental assisting wages is to become a front desk associate in a doctor's office. Those who enjoy spending time with patients and helping people out enjoy the work they do. The job requires minimal supervision and includes administrative duties such as answering the phones and scheduling appointments as well as more hands on activities such as recording mails and referring people to various doctors. Those who earn this type of employment can choose to work full-time or part-time. Full-time employees can make upwards of forty dollars an hour, while part-time employees can make anywhere from ten to sixty dollars an hour.

For those individuals interested in helping others enjoy rewarding and enjoyable employment opportunities, rural dental offices may be the ideal place to pursue a new career. Dentists are required to obtain a four-year degree in dental assisting from a dentist school. Students interested in this type of position must also complete a minimum of two years at the University of Monroe County community college network as well. Obtaining a degree in rural dental assisting will allow an individual to receive full benefits from their degree if they choose to enter the dental assisting field once they have completed their coursework.
